Currently, we are actively preparing for our upcoming residency in Switzerland in May, focusing on research and collaboration with cultural practitioners from Algeria, Tunisia, and Switzerland around the theme of mobility, with a specific focus on visa challenges.
Drawing from our past initiatives, we have encountered the complexities of visa processes, particularly during our residency in Switzerland last year. This experience illuminated the financial and emotional toll associated with visa acquisition, shedding light on the geopolitical obstacles that hinder cultural actors from the Global South.
We observed significant challenges faced by alternative cultural sectors, such as offspaces and independent artist collectives, operating with limited resources and recognition, thereby intensifying visa obstacles. Motivated by these challenges, our research aims to explore the intricacies of mobility and visa issues.
We seek to understand what mobility means for independent artists and cultural actors, question the forces dictating access, and explore alternative solutions to facilitate or accompany the visa process and acquisition. Our commitment to collective action stems from the belief that unity of skills and efforts can bring about positive change.
Through this research residency, we aspire to contribute to fostering a more inclusive, accessible, and interconnected cultural landscape. Stay tuned for updates on our website and social media platforms.
